It lets you run a packetised link between your dialup host and
your local unix machine. You can then telnet out, ftp out, irc,
www, gopher et al with termified clients that have been (trivially)
changed to use term instead of normal direct IP.

You can get term from sunsite.unc.edu:/pub/Linux/apps/comms/term/*

I use it exclusively as I have modified it to be one way, i.e. noone
externally can get into my machine, so its more secure than slip or
ppp and possibly tia.
