Whoops! In my excitement I forgot to mention that. Sorry. But, yup, you hit
it right on the head.

Last night, it didn't work for a medical van. It was rush hour, and the guy
in front of me slammed on his brakes. I did likewise. The medical van behind
me was not as quick. No more rear bumper on my car. (sniff)

ObExtreemlyLameHack:
I set up a simple DIP script on my linux box to page me, but dip needs to
be run suid root (fine if I want to be paged by event, which was true most
of the time). Somewtimes, however, a user wanted to page me. Rather than
make dip suid root, I wrote a quick wrapper that was suid. The wrapper
checked the user's name against a file (ooh, the security of it all), & if
the name was in the file, paged me.

Sorry, can't think of anything else.

BTW: Is the faq still posted to alt.answers? Could you peple who just post
"It can't be this easy" READ it? You're supposed to post an ObHack
with your
post. Even if it's lame like mine. :)
